Designed for those who seek fun, variety and action in the fresh mountain air – this light-hearted week will give you a real feel for the great outdoors and leave you feeling revitalised and full of life with the guarantee a few laughs chucked in.


Day 1 – Our first stop is Smolyan, a beautiful old town situated in the dense forests of the Rhodope Mountains. On the way we will stop off at the medieval Bachkovo Monastery.

Day 2 – Smolyan. After breakfast we drive to the magnificent “Canyon of the Waterfalls”, hidden deep in the highest part of the Rhodope Mountains. From here we will take a short hike and have an included picnic lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the village of Shiroka Luka, an amazing, perfectly preserved architectural reserve, before returning to our hotel and enjoying a traditional Bulgarian dinner.

Day 3 – Smolyan – Trigrad. Today we will visit Prevala, a pass high (1800m) above sea level, from here we will hike through some beautiful pine forests to the village of Gela. From here we will take the bus transfer to the town of Trigrad renowned for keeping its old traditions alive.

Day 4 – Trigrad – Devin. After breakfast we can visit nearby Trigrad Gorge and the “Devil’s Throat” cave, a popular attraction particularly with budding photographers, where the waters of the Trigrad River plunge 137ft into the “Hall of Thunder”. After lunch in a traditional restaurant, we saddle up and enjoy the wonderful views from horse back as we ride through the lush green meadows. This activity is suited for beginners. Later, we visit the Yagodina Cave, one of the most popular cave systems in Bulgaria.

Day 5 – Devin. Today it’s time for our three hour mountain bike adventure! (All equipment and helmets are provided), after we enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. Later on this afternoon we will enjoy a boat trip on the lake to a nearby mountain dam. The rest of the day is at leisure, but why not take a dip in one of the Devin mineral springs and pool.

Day 6 – Devin. Today we travel to Beglika, a high mountain lake, where it is our kayaking day! A professional instructor will give us a lesson in the calm waters before we have lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon we have some free time where you can practice further with the kayaks or just relax on the shores of a lake!

Day 7 – Devin-Sofia. Today we depart the mountains and head to Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia. Pausing en-route for lunch in a traditional restaurant and a visit to the historical town of Batak.

Day 8 – Sofia-UK. After breakfast, we can enjoy a short walking tour of Sofia city centre where we can see the main sites including Boyana Church (UNESCO) and the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. This afternoon, we transfer to the airport before our return flight to the UK

You must ensure that you are fit and well enough to take part in the chosen activities according to the different grades. The horse riding and kayak excursions are suitable for complete beginners and accompanied by professional instructors, however you need to be fit and able to complete the walks and mountain bike excursions.
