ABOUT CRETE

Crete is located in the southern side of the Aegean Sea and is the largest as well as one of the most popular Greek islands, with a rich mixture of breath-taking beaches, ancient treasure and stunning landscapes encompassing vibrant towns and cities, and slow-paced traditional villages. You’ll sense the mystery, warmth and uniqueness of Crete – known as the “great island” – as soon as you step off the plane.

ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES

WALKS

Enjoy countryside full of shaded gorges and quiet, traditional nestling villages, as well as some dramatic coastline. Each walk will take in some of the best scenery that this wonderful region has to offer. Connect with local people and hear tales of Cretan life, past and present, as you visit a typical village house before meandering along mountain paths. On another day you’ll start from the charming village of Kaliviani, up and over a ridge to the splendid beach of Falassarna as it meets the aquamarine sea where there is time for a swim. The final walk takes you to the stunning Deliana Gorge with its large population of griffon vultures and a charming ancient church.

YOGA

You can participate in 5 evening yoga sessions whilst the sun sets. Let your cares slip away and discover an inner peace in the most scenic of surroundings. The qualified yoga teacher, Juliet Green, caters for everyone whether you are a beginner or experienced. For an hour and a half you’ll relax those ‘walking legs’, find inner calm and learn a new respect for your body and mind.

TOURS

Take in the picturesque and sleepy village of Polyrinnia and discover the fascinating culture and history of this archaeological area. There are panoramic vistas down to the sea and over to the White Mountains, while in the spring time the wild flowers bloom in abundance. The second tour takes you down to the south coast and the beautiful old monastery of Chryssoskalitissa, and the stunning beach of Elafonissi.

WALKING NOTES

Grade: Easy Distance: 5 to 6km per day

Walking boots are recommended.

ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION

The comfortable family-run Sunny Bay Hotel is situated directly on a shingle beach and a short stroll to a sea-front taverna for a dinner on most evenings.

Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool and delightful terrace area, pool/snack-bar open all day and into the evening, breakfast room and a small mini market. All rooms have satellite TV, a hairdryer, safe, air-conditioning (both at extra charge), fridge and balcony or terrace with a partial sea view.
